Full of stories of the history of sports in Shawnee, Oklahoma, from the beginning of the town in the 1890's until today. Shawnee has a rich history of baseball, hosting minor league teams, the Colt League World Series and the Sunbelt Classic. Shawnee is also the home of the International Finals Youth Rodeo. The book also contains the history of Memorial Park, Jim Thorpe Stadium and the other playing fields and courts. Dozens of professional athletes have ties to Shawnee and their stories are included. The records of all the high school teams dating back until the early 1900's are also part of the book. There are special stories of when Dizzy Dean pitched in Shawnee, Jim Thorpe's body lay in state in at the local cemetery, astronaut Gordon Cooper ran on the high school track team and Bobby Bonds hit two home runs as a 16 year old.
